The current trip plan is to leave mid-August from Portland and head North towards Anchorage. The last two trips I've taken have been to Central America and have been amazing, but I have this desire to stay in the mountains and in the cold. It also sounds refreshing to travel without a language barrier getting in the way.
The trip originally stemmed from my buddy Andrew, who looks a little like the "Into the Wild" guy. He mentioned he wanted to take a motorcycle trip up to Alaska this summer, which I'm under the impression won't be happening now because he is currently in South America on his moto. In January we left from Oregon and rode down to Costa Rica where half of us came home and half continued on towards Chile. I thought Alaska sounded like a great adventure, especially since I'd be able to bring my dog Charlie along.
The vehicle I'd like to drive up is a first generation(pre '90s) Toyota 4runner.
Mods are as follows:
4" lift
33" tires
Gears for oversized tires
Custom pop-top sleeper or fold-out rooftop tent
6000-9000lb warn winch
ARB winch bumper

I'm sure this list will continue to grow.
Here is a picture similar to what I'm looking to do:
It's great having a goal to travel again in the near future. It keeps me excited about life and looking forward to waking up and getting things done.
I think everyone should have a trip planned- even if it is a year out. It really does help to have something to look forward to. I may be going back to Australia in September for 3 months. My friend has been in Central/South America for the past 10 months and she just emailed to say she is moving to Brazil! I have to go see her! Wanna come?
